THE GOVERNMENT MUST PAY EBENERZER AKWANGA'S 1.5 BILLION FCFA COMPENSATION FOR TORTURE SAYS HIS LAWYERS



Lawyers defending, Cameroonian political and human rights activists, Dr Ebenerzer Derek Akwanga who suffered arrest, torture and detention are still demanding compensation from the Cameroonian government, to the tune of 3 million $, some 1.5 Billion Frs CFA.

They said several petitions to cause the government respect a recommendation from the UN Human Rights Committee, since March 2011, have remained unanswered.

Cameroon officials are quoted as demanding that the victim of torture, Dr Ebenezer Akwanga returns to Cameroon for any negotiations to take place.

The political activist, who partially lost his sight while serving a 20 year jail term in Kondengui prison for subversion, from where he escaped, is demanding Southern Cameroonians not to relent efforts in the fight for the restoration of their statehood.
