Prime Minister, Head of Government,
Philemon Yang, who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee for
the Female and Male African Cup of Nations tournaments in 2016 and 2019
respectively, has called on enterprises carrying out rehabilitation and
construction of the Yaounde Omnisport Stadium and the three training
playgrounds (Military Stadium and Annex 1 and 2 stadiums in Yaounde), to
speed up work, taking into account the deadline given by the
Confederation of African Football (CAF). Mr. Yang handed down the
instructions yesterday at the Yaounde Sports Complex during a working
session that followed his inspection tour to the project sites.
The Prime Minister, who was flanked by
the Minister of State, Minister of Tourism, Bello Bouba Maïgari, Sports
and Physical Education Minister, Bidoung Mkpatt, among st other cabinet
ministers, instructed that security of the project sites and materials
should be ensured. He also ordered government to hasten up the treatment
of files and payment of the enterprises concerned stating that files
must be treated within 48 hours. As far as AFCON villages are concerned,
the PM urged the Local Organizing Committee to, among st other things,
involve traditional rulers and elite for effective promotion of
Cameroon’s image.
“Do everything possible to ensure that
we have the AFCON in good condition”, he said reminding the enterprises
that they are partners of Cameroon who should not afford to disappoint
the country. After the inspection visit, the Prime Minister expressed
satisfaction with the progress of work which stands at overall 66 per
cent for the Omnisport stadium and 53 per cent for the training grounds.
