HIS TIME IS NEAR: CAMEROONIAN PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA SUFFERS FROM PROSTATE CANCER WITH A CRITICAL CARDIAC PROBLEM
French newspaper, Le Monde is reporting that President Biya is currently under medical attention in a Swiss hospital where he has been diagnosed of cardiac problems and prostate cancer.
The
article which was published on the newspaper’s website on Friday, March
13 states that it is the president’s ill health that took him out of
the country on March 1.
The
report says Biya’s wife, Chantal is also currently being admitted in a
French hospital where she is battling to retain her cervix which was
operated upon two years behind. Going by the newspaper,
Chantal’s cervix was operated upon in a US hospital in 2013 but is
still reportedly giving her hard times. The US operation, the report
states kept the First Lady out of the country for several months.
The
French daily reports that all Cameroonian medics and paramedics working
at the Geneva University Hospital, HUG, the hospital where Biya is
admitted were granted holidays shortly before the president’s arrival.
Le
Monde reports that a communiqué by the director of civil cabinet of the
president which announced the presidential couple’s departure from the
country did not state the exact destination of their trip. It merely
stated that the presidential couple was travelling to Europe for a
private visit.
Le Monde, observes that Biya who is 82 years old has spent 33 of those years as president of Cameroon.
Paul
Biya is expected to move to France after he would have been discharged
from the hospital where he and his spouse would meet at their Yvelines
private residence in Paris, reports the newspaper.
The
report also states that Issa Tchiroma, communication minister and
government’s spokesperson would certainly mount the rostrum any moment
from now to swing and spin in a bid to denounce the facts contained in
the article. Biya’s health, Le Monde reports remains a taboo topic in
Cameroon.
