SALE OF CHICKEN TO BE BANNED AS TRACES OF BIRD FLU HAS BEEN FOUND IN CAMEROON AFTER 8 YEARS OF ABSENCE

The rearing and commercialization of chicken in Mfoundi Division, covering the entire city of Yaounde, has been outlawed.
The ban is contained in a ministerial order issued last weekend by Dr. Taiga, Minister of Livestock Fisheries and Animal Husbandry.
According to the minister, the move is a measure aimed at averting the spread of the Avian Influenza virus strain (H5N1), which was recently discovered in a poultry farm in Mvogt Betsi, Yaounde.
