It
is clear that Anglophones can never and never be Boss of CRTV under
Biya’s reign. In his 34 years in power the head of state has always hand
picked his hench men from the french speaking Cameroun to head the
national broadcasting company.
Ndongo had been rejected retirement by President Paul Biya three years ago, while Ace Anglophone state reporters like Fu Peter got retirement ,Charles Ndongo who fails in the the same category like them has instead been appointed General Manager of the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV, in a tipical CDPM regime fashion which clearly portrays regional divide.
For 31 years ,No English-speaking Cameroonian has ever been GM of the CRTV.
According to a decree signed by Cameroon’s president, Paul Biya.Mr Ndongo replaces Amadou Vamoulke who had been GM for more than a decade.
The decree also appoints Emmanuel Wongibe as Assistant General Manager of CRTV, a post described as “ceremonial and lame duck” by observers. He replaces Francis Wete.
During the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of CRTV last year .The CRTV icon, revisited the operations of this state owned medium, analyzed its present state and examined its future.
The news director of TV antenna Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV) has the memory of an authentic eye-witness and observer. He observed that CRTV continues to suffer from the defects of insufficient technical expertise and language of work. The former “journalist of the president” said television promoters are merely interested in personal gain and careless about their audience. He deduced that “it is very tempting to conclude that television in Cameroon refuses to grow up.”
Charles Ndongo, thinks that instead of reveling in the dispute and rivalry, local television stations should seek to empower themselves to be more competitive vis-Ã -vis an increasingly demanding general audience.
