The Republic of Cameroon and the Federal Republic of Nigeria have signed an agreement with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to start the repatriation of the Nigerian refugees in cameroon who sought refuge as a result of Boko Haram war.
The agreement is built on the “voluntarily
and in a dignified manner” return of some 80,000 Nigerians lodged in
the Far North of Cameroon.
According to reports by the African Union, attacks by the terrorist
group Boko Haram have forced about 2.2 million people to flee their
homes.
The group has killed thousands during a seven-year campaign to establish
Islamic law in Africa’s biggest economy and the violence has spilled
over beyond Nigeria to Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
